Soft Foam 5 is a firm density flexible, self-skinning polyurethane foam. With an easy to mix 3:1 (by weight) the material has a comparatively slow pot life of 20-25 seconds, with a rise time of approximately 1.5 minutes.
Key Characteristics
– 3:1 easy to mix ratio (by weight)
– A low viscosity for easy pouring once mixed
– Firm foam with firm density (typical FR Density ~200-230 kg/m3, 12-13 lb/ft3)
– Exceptionally tough skin (particularly when moulded)
– Can be pigmented
– Can be cut and shaped with appropriate tools
Applications
Soft Foam 5, also known as SF5 has been primarily formulated for use within moulding and casting applications, which require a more robust foam than the traditional soft, flexible foams on the market.
The processing characteristics of SF5 allow for mixing by hand, drill or machine. However best results are obtained with a machine.
The versatile nature of the material allows it to be used in a range of applications including:
Film, Television and Stage props (for special effects)
Mould Backing
Industrial Cushioning, Padding, Sound and Vibration Dampening
Scenery Design
How much foam do I need? SF5 typically rises by a factor of 5-6 times its original volume, depending on the circumstances of use. It is strongly advised to calculate the foam prior to casting, otherwise overspill can occur, generating health and safety risks, requiring clean-up and wasting material.
